How to Open a Coin Capsule

Coin capsules once closed are sometimes difficult to open again, and this often cannot be done with just your fingers.

We recommend using a thin knife such as a hobby knife to gently pry around the edge of the capsule. Make sure these knives are razor sharp and that you don't slip. Carefully insert the tip of the knife between the top and bottom half of the capsule, do this step in several places around the edge of the coin. Once you have a small opening around the entire edge, you can use the knife to pry the edges loose. Be sure to proceed slowly and safely and go around the entire edge of the capsule, not just one side. Once the halves are removed far enough apart, you can separate them with your fingertips.

After the top is removed, place the bottom half with the coin between your middle finger and thumb. Then hit a hard surface with the heel of your hand and the coin will come apart. We recommend performing this step with a soft, clean cloth underneath to catch the coin.

Now that the coin is removed, you can do whatever you want with it. As you will notice, the coin and the capsule are undamaged by this process. The capsule can even be reused.
